Bronxville Elementary Celebrates World Read Aloud Day Through Community Partnership

Bronxville Elementary School marked World Read Aloud Day on Wednesday, February 4, by welcoming residents from Gramatan Village into third grade classrooms for a special afternoon of reading and connection.
As part of the school’s Engaged Citizens initiative, local community members visited classrooms to read I Am Human: A Book on Empathy to students. The book’s message aligned closely with the Bronxville Promise and the district’s Be3 with heart mission, encouraging students to reflect on empathy, kindness, and understanding.

Each third grade classroom hosted two Gramatan Village volunteers who read aloud and spent time engaging with students. When time permitted, volunteers shared additional picture books selected by the classes, creating a warm and interactive experience centered on the joy of reading.

Following the read aloud sessions, students completed a reflection activity that allowed them to thoughtfully respond to the story and the meaningful opportunity to connect with members of their local community.

The event highlighted the power of intergenerational learning and reinforced the importance of literacy as a shared experience. Bronxville Elementary extends its gratitude to the Gramatan Village volunteers, classroom teachers, and staff who helped make World Read Aloud Day a memorable and impactful celebration for students.
