Second Grade

students working on sustainable skyscraper project

The Bronxville Elementary School staff welcomes your child to Second Grade. We believe that learning in the Second Grade is a continuum of the use of interactive, hands-on activities and patient practice.

Second graders begin to truly understand the concept of time and schedules, plans and rules. Independent ownership of assignments becomes part of their being. Taking into account the development of each child, we look to provide a challenging and rewarding learning experience. We would like you to know more about the program and how you, as parents, can work with school personnel to help your child make the most of his/her school experience.

Second Grade Highlights

Second Graders Create Models of Sustainable Skyscrapers

Equipped with cardboard boxes and minimal art supplies, Bronxville Elementary School second graders – who had been learning about the characteristics of rural, urban and suburban communities – collaborated with their peers to create 3D models of sustainable skyscrapers.

Mindfulness Lesson Teaches Emotional Expression and Self-Regulation

Second graders quietly sat at their seats, using pencils to draw pictures that reflected moments when they felt mindful. The activity was part of a mindfulness lesson within the school’s Community, Awareness, Responsibility and Empathy (C.A.R.E.) program, led by school psychologist Dr. Joyce Vastola.
